Burnell Washburn: Producer, Rapper, Motivator & More

The music world is a lot like Alice’s Wonderland.  You’ll come across not only the most entertaining of characters full of life and wonder, but also learn a bit about yourself as you connect with various professionals that make up all the different occupations that make music.  For decades people have always looked at music like a single artist is responsible for delivering such an impactful piece of work. Truth be told I have no idea why its been like this for so long as the entire story behind a single record or complete body of work has so many names and aspects that gave it life, learning about all the layers will create a new reality for you if you keep an open mind and open heart when embarking on the deeper side of music. It isn’t just an artist responsible for a hit record or breakout single, there’s producers, engineers, instrumentalists, songwriters, even managers and muses that helped build piece together the building block of praised work.

Its for this reason that NMR wishes to highlight other participants of music making that make this entertainment world what it is. With that being said, I’d like to introduce to you Burnell Washburn. A multi-ranged producer/artist that offers the world more than just smooth, vibrant beats to lay the foundation for the next up and comer’s potential breakthrough track. The twenty-something Salt Lake City native was born to be an artist. He can damn near do it all. Produce, rap, perform like his life depended on it, promote, he’s even refining his digital media expertise; sending out inspirational & informative e-mails in his newsletter and tweets comprised of personal struggle and triumph to motivate his fellow dreamers.

I first met Burnell in 2011 while he was doing a Texas tour with Abstract Rude, which I joined on the line-up for 2 of the Texas dates. What feels like forever ago, even then he ripped the stage with a ferocious energy that motivated me to step my game up as a performer and rightfully earned him a spot on the Rhymesayers’ headliner’s bill. Since then he’s churned out a couple full length commercial albums, countless beats his online via his commercial site Burnellwashburn.com & Soundcloud page, revitalized his commercial brand, increased his networking skills and contacts across the board & helped me as an artist in ways I could never thank enough for. All that in addition to performing on stage with the likes of: Snoop Dogg, Macklemore, Atmosphere, Logic, G-Eazy, Outkast, Mos Def, and countless others. Make no mistake, Burnell is definitely one to help continue to shape the culture for years to come.

If there’s one thing music has taught me, its that there’s never enough ways to stop building, growing and connecting in this business; no matter what you do. If you want to better yourself as an artist and business-person it helps to drop the ego and just learn how to create relationships. Reaching out to other esteemed professionals helps build that bridge from mom’s basement to your own home-studio on the lake & I’m sure nobody is objected to that. Do yourself a favor and vibe out to some of Burnell’s best beats in NMR’s Burny Beats Playlist
